What's Next!?

I know Halloween hasn't arrived yet but I'm now getting ready for Thanksgiving. I went to a Halloween bash this past weekend which was a blast. So as far as I'm concerned I'm done with Halloween (lol).

Anyway seems Im not the only one thinking about Thanksgiving Day. I spent Sunday writing up my menu and talking to folks about what dishes they are bringing. This year my parents and a few other relatives and friends will gather at my house. My parents will make sweet potato pies, and my best friend will make a cake shaped like a turkey. She's very crafty with cakes. Along with the traditional dishes - turkey, ham, etc.- I will be making what's become a family favorite, crab stuffing.

On Nov. 1st, the Thanksgiving Countdown will start at Magical Holiday Home and Organized Christmas. I for one am excited. There will be quite a bit to do in the three weeks leading up to the big day. The first week will be getting organized. I have put together a fall notebook which contains a section dedicated to Thanksgiving. In it I have the countdown, shopping lists, menu planner, recipes, everything I'll need to be ready. Will keep you updated on how things are going.

What a Wonderful Time!

Well Saturday I had my harvest dinner party and it was a success. My guests really enjoyed themselves. They especially liked the party favors I handed out. Everyone, including the men put on the masks I made.

The food was setup buffet style. I added lifts so that the food sat at different heights and covered the table with a fall leaf tablecloth. I mixed silk leaves and mini pumpkins/gourds inbetween the dishes and lit tapered candles which gave the table a nice affect. Unfortunately, I don't have a photo to share. I was so busy making sure everything was in order, that I forgot to take pictures. When I thought of it, it was hours later which by then was too late. I served, appetizers: a fruit platter (which was the tables centerpiece), peppered herb cheese balls and bake crab rangoon. The main dishes were: chili, pulled pork, fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, green beans, collard greens, potato salad and cornbread. For desert there was apple pie and oreo cheesecake. On my bar I set up the drinks for making cocktails and next to the bar in a cooler were soda and beer.

The weather was soo beautiful too. Some of the guests sat out on the balcony to eat and congregate. Then when the sun went down I turned on the orange lights and lit the candles on the chandeliers. We played cards and danced until midnight.

For me, the best part was I didn't have to clean up afterwards. My bf and a couple of my guests took care of everything. A perfect ending to a perfect evening. Now that that's over it's time to get ready for Thanksgiving (along with preparing for Christmas).

It's Almost Party Time!

This Saturday I'm hosting a Harvest Dinner Party. I'm so excited. I've been following the countdown at Organized Christmas, a very special site to me. I have my menu all planned and my apartment is decorated for the season. I decorated plain orange gift bags by gluing silk leaves around the top edges. Inside will be harvest masks (another DIY craft), fall crackers - like the Christmas crackers but I used fall wrapping/tissue paper, a thank you note and a gag gift for fun. I'm expecting it to be a wonderful evening. Plus the weather will be nice so folks can mingle out onto the patio.

Fall Candle Chandelier

Lighting wasn't on my side when taking this photo but I truly love the end results.

Fall Candle Chandelier

Since it's fall I've decided to deck my whole apartment out for fall. On my balcony I've made two candle chandeliers which I am very proud of.
